“rollin down End Times St in a ride called Revelation” is Terror Firma's 8th and most ambitious project to date.
Stylistically, the 16-track beat tape harkens back to the bleary, bit crushed thump of those legendary late 90’s, early 2000’s Sphere of Hip-Hop mixes that used to dominate MP3 dot com, with a touch more Electronica to its approach.
Buoyed by the burgeoning discipline that sample chopping connoisseurs are being turned on to called “Digging in the Prompts”, the Generative AI-inspired source material serves the aesthetic well for this release. It feels vibrant, creative, and refreshingly experimental even for Terror Firma’s already-eclectic catalogue.
The singles, Speak Peace to Fear, Sonrise, Sonshine, and Two Mile Walk are by no means the only standouts, either. The Great Humbling feels like a lost instrumental from Finsta Bundy or Cella Dwellas, and the off-kilter chord movement of Late Night Stare slaps with heavy Native Tongues vibes. The lurching percussion-driven Last Move of God and Break Your Self are ready-made for B-Boy cyphers, as is the blistering future funk of Black Belt Ohms.
All-in-all, this beat tape has a little bit of everything and will stand out as one of the strongest releases thus far from Terror Firma, and is certain to win plenty of time in every pair of headphones it visits.
