about

White Blindness is a man-made disease used to control rabbit populations that threaten farmer’s crops. The disease is released into the warren and then the holes are sealed to prohibit escape. In Adams’ rabbits, the procedure produces a nightmarish and suffocating death. Sometimes it feels like we are choking on the culture around us, scrambling in panic over voyeurism, fame-seeking, and materialism. It is a claustrophobic way to go. There is a second theme to the song. The rabbits have a very limited understanding of the human world around them. They attribute all kinds of conscious purposes to inanimate objects such as trains and vehicles, which are in fact utter foolishness. But, the rabbits can only understand those things insofar as they relate to their small lives. They are largely blind to the truth about the nature of almost everything they see in the world of men. I would imagine that the same or a substantially greater gulf of understanding exists between us and the Creator. I am reminded that we should stand before Truth in great humility.
