Rabbits, like many animals, can smell and anticipate the weather. A few of Adams’ rabbits also have a type of second intuition, which allows them to foresee, in a general way, future events and to communicate with a sort of dreamlike telepathy. While these are useful skills, they are borne at the heavy price that knowledge of looming tragedy exacts. As I have gotten older my sense of responsibility and concern for my family has intensified. I realize how fragile our lives can be, in every respect. But, we tend to associate fear with our childhood. Boogiemonsters, rollercoasters, snakes. Adulthood fear is unsettling and somewhat surprising. Almost unnatural. Like seeing your parents fall down. My adulthood fears caught me off guard. Especially as I wrestle with my own faith and belief. All of that doubt feels like an impending storm.
